EXHIBITION Weekend | EXPO Chicago

September 25—27, 2020

Carrie Secrist Gallery is excited to participate in EXHIBITION Weekend, a digital initiative organized by EXPO Chicago and featuring Chicago-based Galleries, curatorial projects, artist discussions and exhibition tours. EXHIBITION Weekend starts September 25 (at 10AM) and can be accessed via HOOK online here.

We will be presenting work by Adrian Wong and select work from gallery artists either living in Chicago, or who have close ties to the city, including Stephen Eichhorn, Diana Guerrero-Maciá, Andrew Holmquist and Antonia Contro.

EXHIBITION Weekend Special Events:

Friday 9/25 at 7PM
ZOOM conversation between artist Adrian Wong, telepathic animal communicator Lynn Schuster and Carrie Secrist sharing their own perspectives on first presenting The Reading Room project six months ago in New York (without the knowledge that this would be the last mass gathering of the year) to revisiting it now with the hindsight of 2020.

Saturday 9/26 + Sunday 9/27 from 11 – 6PM
Virtual Readings with Wong and Schuster for pets (past, present and recently adopted in the last 6 months) focusing on how the pandemic has impacted their relationship with their humans and their surroundings.

Readings are 45 minutes each and are $200. After the reading is complete, there will be an option to receive a detailed artist rendering and collectable maquette of the object the animal described for $1,000. From there, the collector will have the opportunity of commissioning the object in full scale. Face masks will be required at all times. To book an appointment please visit our Reservations page.

Adrian Wong: READING ROOM REVISITED

Beginning September 25, Adrian Wong—in collaboration with Lynn Schuster, a noted telepathic animal communicator—will be offering telepathic readings to those interested in learning more about their pets (living or deceased). These readings, which present animal spirits the opportunity to commission a unique artwork, will be conducted via online video conferencing service with both the artist and Schuster through the end of the 2020. For each completed reading, Wong will develop a maquette, tabletop model, or small canvas based on the specifications provided by the animal. These small artworks may then be re-developed into full-sized commissions in collaboration with the participant, artist, animal communicator, and pet.

In conjunction with READING ROOM REVISITED, Carrie Secrist Gallery will host a by-appointment-only exhibition of recent work at their space located in the West Loop. This physical exhibition will feature previous collaborative projects, as well as sculptures from a new series that Wong has recently completed.

Chicago Connective presents a selection of artworks by gallery artists Stephen EichhornDiana Guerrero-Maciá and Andrew Holmquist, all currently living in Chicago or with a close connection to the city. In addition, we will present a special book project by Chicago-based artist Antonia Contro. The artworks featured in Chicago Connective are principled in appearance, yet dynamic in function. All the works in this exhibition arise from dedicated studio practices that use a variety of predetermined standards to develop practiced yet creative approaches to the studio. This includes Eichhorn’s determined worldwide source for original plant imagery, Holmquist’s dedicated breakdown of subjects through a variety of different mediums and Guerrero-Maciá’s mining of personal histories intertwined with art histories and the multifarious identities of fabric.
