Departures: A group exhibition of really new work by the Chicago Establishment
December 10, 2004—January 8, 2005
New Work by Antonia Contro, Dan Devening, Tony Fitzpatrick, John Fraser, Gaylen Gerber, Fred Holland, Richard Hull, Robert Lostutter, Donna Tadelman, Ed Paschke, Gladys Nilsson, Laurie Rubin, Victor Skrebneski and others.
Carrie Secrist Gallery is pleased to announce “Departures; A group Exhibition of Very New Work by Established Chicago Artists”. Curated by Secrist, this exhibition will feature work by well-known Chicago artists who have created an imprint of their own very particular styles and forms throughout their careers and who have become inextricably linked to the images associated with their names. This exhibition challenges them to open up old sketchbooks, follow a new inkling or in some way completely depart from their familiar forms and create projects well outside of what viewers will expect to see from them. A crossing of media or an expression of an entirely new concept, the exhibition will give these artists an opportunity to break out of their mold and present some truly new works.
Robert Lostutter, who is well known for his technically brilliant drawing and paintings of human, bird and floral forms will endeavor to present a new body of photography, while Donna Tadelman, a long time painter is planning an installation of objects. Richard Hull, a Chicago standard in abstract works on canvas and paper is presenting furniture.
