Bio

angelomusco.com

Angelo Musco populates his photographs with millions of human figures that form natural architectures and genetic structures. Every forest, nest, or web symbolizes the act of moving from one world to another; in fact, the artist finds inspiration for his transcendental scenes in his own complicated birth story.

To create an image, Musco photographs dozens of nude models, choreographing tangled legs, twisted torsos, and stretched arms. Then, the artist carefully builds his environments, editing each individual model in Photoshop, toning for light and shadow, and finally positioning the individual amidst a mass of other bodies. This aggregation of human imperfection acts as a central theme to the work.

Born in Naples, Italy, in 1973, Angelo Musco was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Granada, Spain, and received his BA from the Art Academy in Naples. Recent exhibitions include Maison Particuliere, Brussels, Belgium and the 53rd Venice Biennale (presented by the Moscow Museum of Modern Art). The artist currently works and lives in New York, New York.
